My mother saw what she thinks was a Ruffed Grouse today, April 8, in
Wright County (on H east of TT, just before the bridge). The bird flew
low, close in front of her, across the road. She described it as
looking like a game bird (she wondered at first whether it might be a
Prairie Chicken), and said it was the length of a crow (but plump) and
had a fan-shaped tail. The single feature she got the best look at was
the tail, which she described as being a russett color near the body and
brown with some white near the end. She looked through Kaufman's Birds
of North America, and said the the tail shown on the Ruffed Grouse was
the tail she saw.
