The resident Sandhill cranes seem to be consistently present at the back of the Cattail pools where Larry Lade reported them about a week ago.  They are located more easily in flight or when vocalizing.
Rough-legged Hawks have gone north.  N Harriers are still present.
Thousands of American Coots are here this spring.  About one hundred D-C Cormorants and lots of Pied-billed Grebes are here.  The refuge has more water now than the previous two years.  It should be great for nesting Least Bitterns, Yellow-headed Blackbirds, Marsh Wrens and waterfowl this year.
