After looking in field guides (didn't have any when at REDA) am 100% sure that this bird was an EARED GREBE.
Josh did not re-find it this PM, but then again, it can get "lost" easily in the rafts of waterfowl.

BTW.........
According to Joe Friedel, the COMMON REDPOLLS are still coming to their East Alton, IL feeders.
Think these birds are going for the late date, May 10 in NO. IL. 
The hosts had over 170 visitors, most from the MO side of the River.
