Looks like the Joplin CBC, held on 12-27-03, will check in with 66 species,
down slightly from an average in the low to mid 70's. Still one list out though.
Very windy all day. Best birds, in my opinion, so far:
Great Blue Heron  2;  Green-winged Teal  2;  Bald Eagle  4;  Am. Kestrel  19;
N. Bobwhite  1;  Yellow-bellied Sapsucker  5;  Red-breasted Nuthatch  CW;
Yellow-rumped Warbler 9; Field Sparrow 2. Feeder watchers are often very
important. They had Fox Sparrow 2; and Purple Finch 1. Those two species
were not observed by four field parties.
Some birders across MO KS and OK have commented on low numbers of
chickadees. We haven't noted that here and tallied 105 Carolinas.

Good birding, Larry H. Joplin MO. Lawrence Herbert [log in to unmask]
