Shannon,
I have seen and heard Red Shouldered Hawks in the Pickle
Springs area and Hawn State Park as well. According to
Jacobs' "Birds in Missouri," the Red Shouldered Hawk is
an uncommon resident of the forested riparian areas of the
Ozarks (breeds nearly statewide, except the northwest
corner of the state, although I believe it has been documented
as a breeder there recently). Nonetheless, an extremely cool
find!! Keep the location of the nest under your hat until they
have taken care of business...
