A Bald Eagle was found shot just north of the Vernon-Bates County line last
Friday along M Highway, close to the Osage River. As the crow flies, this
is about five miles from the location of the nest. It was apparently shot
while feeding on a deer carcass.

I spoke with the people at the S-O Hdq. a few minutes ago. They don't know
if it was one of the nesting birds or not or whether this is related to our
not seeing any activity around the nest for the last two weeks.

A $500 reward is being offered by the Conservation Dept. for information
leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever shot the eagle.

Dorothy Lambert, Nevada, Vernon County
