55 swans this afternoon at Riverlands, between the office and the gas station; probably a tundra or so in there somewhere, can't say. VERY little open water -- ever see a pelican plodding along on ice? The number of gulls was staggering. I watched the swirl over the tailwater for a short time, and gave up. Above the dam, some of the ice floes were solid gull. And there were a few eagles out walking the ice.
Seen this morning in Moline Acres, while airing the cats: 5 bald eagles (single adult, adult w/ 2 juvenals, another single adult), and a pair of red-tailed hawks, once in a 'kettle' with a sharp-shinned hawk. The red-tails seemed to be scouting the area; how does one hang out a "Tree to Let" sign?
