Nice photos! Re: the bald eagle - is this the new nest close to the
road or one of the old nests? I saw a pair of eagles on the new nest
(looked *very* new) on New Year's Day; one of the eagles had just flown
in with a small fuzzy creature for 'lunch'. Also saw one of the eagles
leave the new nest area with a large stick, heading for old nests;
however, it dropped the stick before it got to the nests. Not sure
what's going on there, either 2 pair building nests, or the one breeding
pair can't decide which view they like best ;o) Saw 32 eagles that day,
thousands of mallards, about 20 pintails. Thanks for the tip on the
screech owl.

Hi,

I did a quick loop around the refuge today. The little
water there has froze and the thousands of Mallards
have moved on. Only saw the 2 adult Bald Eagles.
Not much else to report, except...

Rough Legged Hawk (1) in the Pintail Pool area
Eastern Screech-Owl (red phase) roosting in
      wood duck box #26 in the mallard marsh.

a few photos of the Screech-Owl and some close-ups
of an American Tree Sparrow can be seen at:
