Judy asks where to look for eagles at this time of year.

They are found in the larger lakes and in wildlife management areas, where
there are waterfowl, so any of those locations would be good places to look
for them. They feed on crippled waterfowl and fish found at those
locations. Any lake that has a large flock of wintering geese will also have
eagles.

If the lakes freeze up and snow covers the ice, the eagles move along
rivers, which remain open. They are fish eaters as well as scavengers.
However, they may be somewhat harder to see along a river unless there is a
road nearby. They are most easily seen around the larger lakes because they
are more conspicuous there.

Right now, the larger lakes may be partially frozen. In those conditions,
there should be eagles present to feed on waterfowl and on fish caught in
the ice. You will often see eagles sitting right on the ice. If not that,
they should be hanging out conspicuously in the larger trees.

Perhaps some of the Columbia folks can tell you whether there are eagles at
Thomas Hill reservoir or Eagle Bluffs W.M.A. or along the river near Overton
Bottoms. You can probably find them at Swan Lake and/or Fountain Grove too,
unless those areas are completely frozen up.

No doubt there are eagles at REDA, if you want to drive that far.
