For those who have struck out with the Merlin so far:  I do not know if Jurek ever posted the directions from Mackenzie road.  From Mackenzie road you head into the cemetary and drive all the way to the back.  There you will see apartment buildings on the other side of the fence.  From that point look up the hill,  there is a dead tree.......which is where Jurek told me he often sees them.  To the south of that tree their is a very large alive tree.  This is where I saw the female perched yesterday.........Do not know if I helped anyone out, but was not sure this had been posted.

There are TWO Merlins at the Lakewood Cemetary.
Blaming light conditions, inexperience, excitement caused by seeing
the Merlin for the first time and from such a short distance, I was
confused and couldn't figure out the sex of the bird. Every day it
appeared different. Until this morning when I saw two birds together; At
7:30 the Merlin was just finishing its morning-sparrow when the second
bird arrived, significantly smaller, with steelblue wings almost Kestrel
like. Both birds made several circles around their favourite tree, the
female perched and the male flew away.
Well, not very smart birdwatching; needed to see both birds together to
figure it out. Anyway, I felt like in Heaven for a while.
Didn't see the Shrike yet.
