Ozark Rivers Audubon Introduces Andrew Forbes, Director of Bird Conservation for Missouri The January meeting of the Ozark Rivers Audubon Society will be held at Brunos, 2001 Forum Drive in Rolla. The meeting and presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. Andrew Forbes, Wildlife Ecologist and the new Director of Bird Conservation for Missouri will speak. Originally from Massachusetts, Mr. Forbes received a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from the University of Rhode Island and an M.S. in Wildlife Science from Texas Tech University. He has worked on various wildlife projects in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Louisiana, Texas, North Carolina, and Kansas. Species he has worked with include Red-cockaded woodpeckers, Saltmarsh sharp-tailed sparrows, Northern bobwhite, and Wood ducks. Mr. Forbes began serving in the Director of Bird Conservation for Missouri position on November 18th, 2002. The position is cooperatively funded by the Missouri Department of Conservation and Audubon Missouri, the state office of the National Audubon Society. He will be stationed in Columbia, but will be working statewide. His stated long-term objective is “to develop and deploy a comprehensive bird conservation program through the MDC/Audubon partnership.” He will be working with various programs, including coordinating the annual Breeding Bird Surveys, and initiating the process for the identification of Important Bird Areas (IBAs) in Missouri. As usual, the presentation will be preceded by "Bird Talk" and followed by a Q & A session.
