Nancy,

My wife and I use a pair of Motorola TalkAbout T6200.

Got them at Wal-Mart for approximately $50.00 each.

They seem to work quite well.

They use three AA batteries and the only down-side is that sometimes the
little cover that covers the batteries tends to want to open up. Small
piece of black electricians tape has "patched" this issue.

As to how FRS radios in general compare with regard to RANGE, THAT is a
good question.

Sometimes when on birding trips, I hear some people say that they don't
hear all the messages that are being broadcast.

Someone with a different radio standing next to them will receive a
transmission, but their's won't?

Not sure if this is related to Quality or something else.

What kind of FRS Radios are birders using? Is there much difference
between
the brands? I'm thinking of getting a set for my husband for Christmas.
I
don't have loads of money to spend, but don't want to end up with
something cheap that doesn't work.

Thanks for any info and help.....

Nancy R.
