I checked Smithville Lake (at the dam) twice today: once before work and once during a long "lunch".

This morning, I arrived just in time to see two loons booking it to the south and only one Common Loon remaining on the main body of the lake. All four of the expected gulls were in one flock near the dam (all gulls in small numbers, the majority Franklin's).

At noon, I spent over an hour behind the Litton Center scoping a large raft of ducks. It turned up a few new species for the fall, but nary a loon or a scoter.

The last time I had the Pacific Loons, by the way, was Tuesday evening (10/29).
