ASM is sponsoring a State Birding Day to be
held on Saturday, December 7, 2002 at Smithville Lake, Clay County,
Missouri. Jim and Ellen Zellmer of Burroughs Audubon Society in
the Greater Kansas City area are hosting this all-day birding
event.
Meeting time will be at 8:00 a.m. at the Litton Visitor's Center located on
DD Highway just east of the dam. We will meet in the parking lot.
This field trip will cover all waterfowl that can be expected at this time
(i.e., loons, grebes, ducks, geese, scoters). If time permits, we will
also cover the north portion of Smithville Lake which will include sparrows,
finches and possibly short-eared owls in the late afternoon.
For those coming from a distance, there are motel accommodations both in
Smithville and in Kearney, MO. Listed below are some of the motels along
with the phone numbers. Prices on average will run $45-$60/night for 1-2
occupancy. Call for further details and to make your
reservations.
