Big Lake is sometimes a good alternate for the larger flocks of Snow Geese and other waterfowl as they come through, especially if Squaw Creek’s conditions are poor (as they are so far this year).  It deserves a closer inspection this year, at least on an occasional basis.

Lake Birding in NW MO

After birding Big Lake in Holt county 3 times during this  year, I had concluded that it was a dead lake and attracted no birds.  Today was completely a surprise, however, and good birding.  Shorebird habitat is excellent.  I wish I had checked it 2 months ago.
