At SOUTH END of Bean Lake Sat. 10/26: 1 G. Yellowlegs, 1 LONGB. DOWITCHER,
"ba-gillions" of Killdeer, 1 HOODED MERGANSER, many mallards, some scaup,
shovelers, widgeon, coots, blue and green-wing teal and the first BALD
EAGLE (adult) for the season.; further up the lake 1 Am. White Pelican
-been there all summer. Usual yard birds at the cabin plus several GOLDEN
CROWNED KINGLETS...a first for the yard;...both white crowned and white
throated sparrows; song sparrows, field and tree sparrows, chipping
sparrows; lots of juncos. Because of the weedy conditions where there was
once lake bed, there are many sparrows, just didn't get to study them very
well. Had up to 6 young e. bluebirds investigating the 2 woodduck houses
this a.m., guess the adults didn't tell them that bluebird houses are much
smaller and that there are several on the property that fit their size
better ;-) There were 9 g.b. herons in the pond just north of Pat's steak
house near Sugar Lake; 25 snow geese on the field where the old fish
hatchery ponds were leveled down west of the campground. Not much of note
on the lake itself...noticeably missing were canada geese at both lakes
(guess they're hiding out due to hunting season).
