Had a field trip for a mammalogy class to Prairie State Park (Barton Co.)
this weekend (Oct. 25-27). Had some good birds:

Spotted Towhee
Eastern Towhee
Greater Prairie-Chicken
Short-eared Owl
Fox Sparrow
Swamp Sparrow
Northern Harrier
Brown Creeper
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Barred Owl
Great Horned Owl
Snow Goose (flying over)

The Spotted Towhee was a female and was with a small group of Eastern
Towhees. It was the first time I had seen a Greater Prairie-Chicken, so that
was exciting also. Also saw a Rough-legged Hawk on the drive back to
Springfield.

Best regards,

Blake Mathys
Springfield, Greene Co.
