Subject: IBET: FW: URGENT call re ATV bill/Chouteau Island (no
sightings)
FYI
Fellow IBETers! This area is or could be an excellent birding area (is a
location for many wintering waterfowl and gulls and a spot for Bald Eagles as
well). The woodland areas are probably never birded and who knows what may
be out there. ATV's do lots of damage and I'd hate to think what this area
may be like if this goes through.
A
simple phone call!
Thanks,
WARBLR

Gov. Ryan is about to sign SB 2155 which would
immunize owners and operators of off-road vehicles from criminal and civil
liability for public or private nuisance or trespass arising from noise.
This would affect public and private land, parks and natural areas, harm
wildlife and habitat, be intrusive and destructive. Also, ATVers and
elected officials are pressing Illinois DNR to revisit the no-ATV policy on
Chouteau Island. They claim they outnumber the environmentalists.
Show them they're wrong. Alert all your listserves immediately. With
one free phone call, act on both issues NOW. Call Gov. Ryan's toll-free
line 1-800-642-3112 and ask that he veto SB 2155 AND please not allow
ATVs on Chouteau Island. Do it today or tomorrow. Time is definitely
running out. Thanks.
