Sunshine Lake is an oxbow lake on the north side of the Missouri river just
west of Highway 13.

From Kansas City, take U.S. 24 East to Mo 131. Take Mo 131 North a short
distance to Mo 224. Take Mo 224 East to the Lexington Bridge over the
Missouri River. Cross the river at Lexington and go north on US 13 . Take
your first blacktop road to the left. Follow that west. You will make a few
zigs and zags but eventually find a way to go north by taking a right turn
on on a gravel road. You will be entirely among agricultural fields, and you
should be able to see the cottonwoods by the lake to the north. Head for
those, and you will get to Sunshine Lake.

Staying as close to the lake as possible, if you follow the road north,
east, north and west again, you will come to the entrance to a recreational
parking area. There is usually a flag flying. Go about 50 yards and view the
lake from the parking area. Return to the road closest to the lake and turn
left. That gravel road takes you through more cropland. Keep turning left,
and you will get to an area of RV's and trailers called the Sportsman's
Club. Try to get pemission to view the lake fom there.

Retrace your steps and, keeping as close to the lake as possible, work your
way to the other end, stopping to walk out on the dikes and scope the lake
where possible.

The lake is hard to view. In some spots, you have to walk in a bit to get a
good view. There are lots of 90 degree turns, and the gravel roads are
dusty, but you can't really get lost if you keep close to the lake.

You can return the way you went in or keep going west on the road south of
the lake. It straightens out at the end of the lake and goes due west for a
long way. Go a few miles and take one of the gravel roads that lead north,
across the railroad tracks to a black top road. (County T?). You will come
out near Camden. Take the dcounty road west until it runs into MO 210. Mo
210 will take you to Mo 291, which you can take north to Independence. Or
you can keep going through North Kansas City and pick up a bridge to KC.
