He seems to me an odd composite figure, part priest, part some 
kind of psychiatric figure.  But I am not sure he would fit neatly 
into this distinction.  I would be interested also if someone with 
expertise would classify him specifically.

I don't see anything in the play that makes this clear, and 
don't know if it's ever been discussed. Might not matter, 
but I was just curious when I realized I didn't know.
