My reading of Stetson might be considered ideogrammic as it seems, among
Americans, the perfect name to invoke the image "hat". (I once owned a
tweed Stetson labelled a "London Stroller". It looked nothing like a
cowboy hat.)

Ever since reading Carpenter's bio of EP the Stetson greeting, aside from
a cry in the crowd, evokes in me a more subliminal image of tipping one's
hat. Carpenter discusses EP's family life in Pennsylvania where among the
Pounds' townsfolk is America's superstar hatmaker - Mr. Stetson.
