Jahrbuch Türkisch-Deutsche Studien, Band 11, 2021
Call for Papers (English below)

Turkish-German Studies Yearbook, Volume 11, 2021
Call for Papers

In October 2018, the conference “Value Orientations: Turkish-German and German-Turkish Relations in Literature and Film” was jointly organized by the partner universities of the University of Hamburg and Istanbul University and Ege University (Izmir) and the University of Paderborn through support by the DAAD. Working from the assumption that the discussion and negotiation of values is particularly charged in contemporary migrant and post-migrant societies, the goal of the conference was to more closely analyze culturally specific value negotiations in Turkish-German literary texts and films and the aesthetic representation thereof. The eleventh volume of the Turkish-German Studies Yearbook, forthcoming in 2021, thus seeks to both offer a venue for the findings of this conference and foster continued debate on value orientations in the context of German-Turkish artistic and cultural production.

The Turkish-German Studies Yearbook, established in 2010, offers a platform for an international and transdisciplinary exchange of ideas between senior and junior scholars who work on Turkish-German topics. In addition to contemporary themes, such as the representation of current migrant cultures, the journal also publishes research on the historical dimensions of Turkish-German cultural contact in its broadest sense. Articles appear in English, German, and Turkish from the disciplines of literary, cultural, and media studies, linguistics, German and Turkish studies, sociology, politics, history, and pedagogy.

We welcome proposals for the special topic section as well as general submissions. Please submit abstracts of 200 words via email by January 15, 2021. Contributions of 5000–8000 words may be written in German, English, or Turkish, and must be submitted by April 30, 2021. Articles will be subject to a double-blind peer review process by an academic advisory board composed of scholars from Germany, Turkey, and the U.S. In addition to articles, we also publish reviews and reports, for which we also seek proposals.
