The MLA forum on eighteenth- and early-nineteenth-century German
invites proposals for the panel:
This panel is seeking proposals for papers that are willing to explore
questions relating to theories, techniques and technologies of
measurement from various perspectives. Questions to be addressed might
include the following:
- What theoretical distinctions exist between 'measure' as it is
understood in aesthetic as opposed to non-aesthetic contexts?
- How do acts of measure and measurement allow for abstract concepts
to be grounded in time and space?
- How does the concept of 'measure' function at the interface of
various disciplinary theories and practices?
- Under what circumstances does precision emerge in discussions of
Abstracts which either address these questions or take their own
original approaches are welcome.
Send an abstract of 200-300 words to Jocelyn Holland
([log in to unmask]) no later than March 15th. The MLA will be held
in New York City on January 4-8, 2018.
