In WWI at Christmas time on the line where my Dad was stationed, the German soldiers put up a sign which read "Gott mit uns". The Canadians replied with: "We got mittens too!". I guess the Canadians couldn't see how someone would want to pray with them one day an shoot them the next.
Relevance: The surname of the author here is Gott. Book looks interesting if one has read Flaubert, which I haven't. I don't know what I' m missing, I know. If I knew all I'm missing in life I'd be either Poor Tom o'Bedlam or Ezra Pound of St. Elizabeth.
