For many states, counties or cities, you are able to search court
dockets or even case records online. Sometimes it is free of charge,
but in many cases there is a fee and you have to sign up with a credit
One of the sites you can check for online records in each state is
this free web site: CourtReference.com
http://www.courtreference.com (avoid the advertising box that says
"public record search" that's not free)
When you get to the state where the person may have lived or worked,
choose from the "Find court resources by category" and look at "Search
Court Case Records" For example this is California:
The site also has a directory of courts so you can get information on
how to call the clerks if there is no online search there.
Also there is a lookup if you don't know what county the city is in.
Hope this helps,
