The no redirect from a deleted record happens occasionally. Sometimes the series was created in error, and there really is not a series at all. Before I delete a series statement from my local catalog, I usually go back and look at the LC or OCLC bib. records for the titles I hold to see if/how they have been updated. And I pull the pieces from our stacks to look at. Those steps usually resolve my questions. I sometimes hold a printout to check back later, but even then I only check back once after several months. I have the luxury of being able to create a local series if I need it in-house, though, which makes it easy for me if there is ambiguity.
I hope this helps.

Subject: [SERIES-L] deleted series record
Chris Fox asked: "I just got a delete record for a series authority from our vendor but no accompanying new or corrected record. Does this mean that I’m supposed to delete the series record from my catalog and remove it from the bib records which contain it?"
I did a search in OCLC authorities (Authorities--Search--Search LC Names and Subjects History):
OCLC ARN (an:) 2005058958
which retrieved the record. It reads:
010 n 2005058958
040 DLC ǂb eng ǂc DLC
1001 Wilce, Ysabeau S. ǂt Tygers of Wrath
430 0Tygers of Wrath
642 v. 1 ǂ5 DLC
643 Orlando ǂb Harcourt
644 f ǂ5 DLC
645 t ǂ5 DLC
646 s ǂ5 DLC
670 Wilce, Ysabeau S. Butlers and banishings, 2006: ǂb series t.p.
The fixed field has: Rec Stat: d
Available codes for this field are, according to this site:
Indicates relationship of record to a file for file maintenance purposes
c Corrected or revised
Thus it was appropriate that you should receive the record from your vendor. A title search of the NAF
Titles (ti:) Tygers of Wrath
retrieved no record. So it appears you are right that no new or corrected record exists. Note that this search does NOT retrieve the deleted record. To do so, follow the procedure above (something I learned at ALA, thanks to a comment by Gary Strawn).
As of now, no guidance is available in the form of a SAR for this title. What you choose to do locally is up to you. Deleting/removing is certainly an option and might spare you (or your successors!) further questions later on.
