Call for Papers
GERMAN STUDIES ASSOCIATION THIRTY-SIXTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE
The German Studies Association (GSA) will hold its Thirty-Sixth Annual
Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, October 4-7, 2012.
Within the category of interdisciplinary panels, proposals for entire
sessions and for individual presentations are sought on the topic:
WALTER BENJAMIN AND LITERARY AESTHETICS TODAY
Papers may address any ways in which Benjamin’s
aesthetic/literary-critical theories and concepts (e.g., beautiful
semblance, “das Ausdruckslose,” “das Gedichtete,” allegory, pure
language, translatability, montage, the fragment) intersect with his
reflections on other discourses and media (photography, film, history,
theology, Marxism, etc.), while lending themselves to being actualized
within later/present paradigms in literary theory, cultural studies,
and neighboring disciplines.
Offers to serve as session moderators or commentators are also welcome.
No more than two individuals from the same institution and no more
than two graduate students may serve on the same panel; graduate
students cannot serve as moderators or commentators.
Please see the GSA website (www.thegsa.org) for information about the
submission process, which opens on January 5, 2012. ALL proposals
must be submitted online; paper forms are not used. The deadline for
proposals is February 15, 2012. Please note that presenters must be
members of the German Studies Association. Information on membership
is available on the GSA website.
Please direct initial inquiries by February 1, 2012 to:
