Call for Papers
Contributions are invited for an edited volume on topics relating to the history of German television, including: GDR and pre-Wende television; origins of television broadcasting in the two Germanies; neo- versus paleo-TV (network broadcasting vs. post-cable); European co-productions; films produced for TV, linkage between film and TV; importation and reception of American programs; television and new media, digital technology; cultural reception of television.
Contributions are sought for that combine theoretical perspectives (media theory, systems theory, discourse analysis, sociology, Deleuze) with historical and philological attention to specific material, and that extend our view of television from texts to discursive events or economic and technological dispositives and contexts. Studies of individual television series or synoptic views of periods of German television history are welcome. Especially important would be contributions addressing the historical particularity of German television and its regional differences, whether in terms of content or institutions.
Please send 1-2 page abstract plus short CV by Sept. 15, 2010 to Larson Powell ([log in to unmask]) and Robert Shandley ([log in to unmask] ).
