Today (Dec 29) is the feast day of the Martyrdom of St. Thomas á Becket,
a sine qua non for Eliot's Murder In The Cathedral, for the carnage in its
cadence, the impunity in its plot and the puissance of its poetry.
The working title of the play was something like The Archbishop Murder Case.
The second part of the play is set on the day (Note the beginning dialog
among the priests).
