Popular Culture Association / American Culture Association Annual Meeting
Atlanta, Georgia, April 12-15, 2006.
“Muslims, Turks, and Germans: Searching for the Civil in Society.”
Papers are sought that deal with recent debates about Muslims and Turks and
Germans (as heterogenous, ethnic and religious groupings) in German-speaking
lands. What are the attempts to create a civil society, based on toleration,
acceptance, and the guarantee of basic human rights in German-language culture,
through popular culture? Are these rights being eroded by other facets of
popular culture, and what aspects of popular culture help shape the
German(-language) debate?
Please send 150-200 word abstracts and a brief CV by the deadline of November 1,
2005. Electronic submissions are welcome and preferred.
