Eliot did quote Arnold concerning Sophocles in the intro to SACRED WOOD,
but not the words you have cited.

Does anyone know where Eliot makes his allusion to Arnold's remark on
Sophocles, that 'he saw life steadily and he saw it whole'. I thought
he said this of Arnold himself in UPUC, but so far the exact quotation
has eluded me.
