but not the words you have cited.

Subject: Saw life steadily
Does anyone know where Eliot makes his allusion to Arnold's remark on
Sophocles, that 'he saw life steadily and he saw it whole'. I thought
he said this of Arnold himself in UPUC, but so far the exact quotation
has eluded me.
