Discussion of stupidity and intelligence is apt to carry by implication
the assumption that there is such a thing as "general intelligence" (as
measured by I.Q. tests), what the psychologists who invented it a
century ago called _g_. There is no such thing. It isn't just that I.Q.
tests don't give an accurate measure of g; it is that there is no such
