My thesis supervisor told me that the Irish kind song had to do
with the sinking of the Lusitania. The "Oed und leer" was a
headline to describe the sea when the rescue folk got there to help.
That's a vague recollection from long ago, but
it may have some value, since she was around then, as was her husband,
both of whom had their generation's hobby of picking up on WL trivia.

Subject: TWL songs
I have some information about the songs of TWL at my website but
covers mainly the publication details and the lyrics with a few links
to midi files. Now I'm in a mood to explore the songs some more. I'd
like to read about why Eliot may have used the songs he did and
guesses as to the reasons why or anything else dealing with them.
Could list members point me to some essays that they thought covered
this well or give a few ideas of their own.
