I am soliciting papers for the following panel to be held at the Annual Meeting of the Northeast Society Eighteenth-Century Studies to be held in Burlington, Vermont from Nov 4 - 6, 2004. The theme of the conference is "Borders and Crossings."
"Austrian Cultural History in the Eighteenth Century": Edward T. Larkin (Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, University of New Hampshire); Murkland Hall 210H, University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH 03824; phone: (603) 862-3549; fax: (603) 862-1690; email: [log in to unmask]
Perhaps no state of the eighteenth-century had as many borders, ethnic as well as political, as the Austrian Empire. This panel, broadly defined to accommodate a variety of interests and approaches, is intended to explore the various borders - intellectual, social, historical, literary and cultural - and their crossings in the multi-ethnic empire. Preference will be given to those papers that draw on interdisciplinary materials and to those that address less common cultural aspects of the empire. Please send inquiries and one-page proposals to the above address by April 30, 2004.
