CALL FOR PAPERS
The graduate students of the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures
at the University of Kansas (Graduate Association of German Students – GAGS)
are announcing a call for papers for their annual interdisciplinary conference
to be held on February 20-22nd, 2004 in Lawrence, Kansas. Abstracts from
graduate students and scholars from the humanities and social sciences are
DAS HEUTIGE BILD DER DEUTSCHSPRACHIGEN WELT – WISSENSCHAFTLICHE UND
We are about to examine the present achievements of scientific
disciplines (first of all, those concerning linguistics, literature or
teaching German as a second language) in the countries where German is used as
an official language, as well as in all linguistic enclaves and minority
groups of the world. We would also like to turn our attention to the political
role these countries are playing on today’s world stage.
TODAY means recent years, but presentations need not be limited to recent
history: they may include the developments of the past decade. A look into the
future with predictions is also possible. Comparisons with other countries /
cultures or previous achievements may be drawn upon as well.
Topics can include:
Die Widerspiegelung der heutigen Gesellschaft in deutschen Romanen der
Deutschsprachige Filme unserer Zeit: Alltagsleben heute
Entwicklungen der Dialektforschung auf verschiedenen Gebieten
Unterrichtspraxis im 21. Jahrhundert mit Hilfe der Technologie
Deutsch als Amtssprache in der EU
Deutschland und Österreich: EU-Länder in der heutigen Welt
Die Schweiz: Nonkonformismus, Isolation oder Unabhängigkeit?
Presentations will be about 20 minutes in length, in German or in English.
