Dear Eugene,
Regardless of the AOL, try making the acute by holding down "alt"
and hitting 0233 on the number keys--é. You can get a chart that
tells how to do all the characters.
Thanks to Peter Montgomery who sent me the character chart.
And it saved me, by the way, in editing a text.

Gunnar, Using AOL, which is a disgraceful system; thus, I could not
find (or use) the acute accent in the name. I have his name, since
school, as Chretien [no "s"] de Troyes. Simply trying to say, the
potential of American poetry has diminished because poets crave
less because poets know less because poets read less; and all the
