I would like to interpret this as a joke -- it certainly made me
chuckle. But telegraphic style in e-mail, with its flattening of tone,
always leaves one uncertain.
I presume Marcia wanted to know the book you scanned from???
That does make a difference in the case of Auden (and I found out just
the other day, it makes a bigger difference than I had assumed in
Moore's Collected Poems [1951] and _Complete Poems_ [1981]). I have the
1945 Collected Poetry of Auden, and I was jolted when I discovered that
his "In Memory of W.B. Yeats" was so different in the Norton Anthology.
He butchered the poem by leaving out two wonderful stanzas.
