"Crossing Borders, Cultures, and Disciplines"
Eighth Annual Focus Graduate Student Conference
24-25 October 2003, University of Cincinnati
We welcome papers that explore crossing as a metaphor or event, from one
culture to another, across national and/or imagined borders, and across
disciplines. What are the effects and significance of such movements? How
are globalization and multiculturalism changing literature and culture(s)?
What new discourses are emerging?
Possible topics might include, but are not limited to: transnational
literature; "Ausländerliteratur/Migrantenliteratur"; Turkish-German
literature; German/Austrian-Jewish literature; East-West; diasporas; travel
literature; exile; representation of minorities; subcultures; bridges
between cultures; interdisciplinary studies; real and imagined border
crossings; immigration and migration; globalization; multiculturalism;
linguistic changes; translation; identity; cosmopolitanism; mother
Papers presented at the conference will be considered for publication in
Focus on German Studies 11 (2004).
