I am curious about connections between Eliot, Poe and Baudelaire.
Poe obviously had a profound effect on Baudelaire et al.
Eliot's assesment of both, however, seems to ignore that influence
altogether.
In fact Eliot isn't all that friendlyto his southern forebearer.
Cf.the following essay:

So what is it that Baudelaire, Valéry and Mallarmé liked so much about Poe?
Could it have been his nterest in creating a work by starting at the end and
working backwards -- the sleuh technique?
Thanks and
Cheers
Peter
