Two things:
1. I think we are all grown-up enough to determine our response to calls for
'shunning'.
2. I would be quite happy to simply ignore posts by people who mostly
contribute nonsense to the list. But this nonsense can also provoke a flurry
of answers from well-meaning people who rightly take offence at it. Since
subject lines aren't often representative, I end up reading messages about
that nonsense all the same.
In such circumstances, I think calls for shunning, or at least for a sound
scepticism about a particular poster's intentions, are perfectly acceptable.
Again, everyone can decide how they respond to such calls.
