I read recently that the original printing of Ash Wednesday contained an
inordinate number of blank filler pages in the front, leading up to the first
line, "Because I do not hope to turn again." I also seem to recall hearing
that the notes were added to The Waste Land in part to make it long enough to
print properly. Can anyone verify these stories and are there similar
instances in which the printing of the poems perhaps influenced or shed light
on the poems--even if only as a mildly funny aside?
