This is equally offensive from Kate and Arwin. There is nothing "American"
about hate and prejudice. Some Americans act out of that; most do not.
And we are not more prone to it than others. It is not here that anti-
Semitism is rising, and it is not a general attitude here to blame Arabs
either. I find all this stereotyping false and, frankly, ignorant. And Kate's
views are Kate's views. They do not speak for "America."

As it turns out, however, the killer appears to be an environmentalist,
active in several organisations, a quiet but intelligent man, recently
father of a three month old baby, and so far appearing to have limited his
fight for a 'better word' to court, against farmers and bioindustrialists.
Pim Fortuyn had said a few weeks ago that if he would be elected, he would
make sure that legislation against the fir-industry would be severely
cut-down. Perhaps that, and not having slept very well recently, pulled
this guys trigger. We are still waiting for a statement, if he ever makes
