Eliot, a card-carrying member of the Richard III Society (?), is said to
have sported a white rose in his buttonhole to mark the anniversary of the
battle of Bosworth, at which Richard was killed. Like many symbolists, he
had a soft spot for defeated aristocratic figures (Le Prince d'Aquitaine ŗ
la tour abolie, Coriolanus...)
