Dear Rick,
I've nothing to add to the borrowing/allusion/coincidence question. Just
want to note the marvelous characterization by Francesca of the book (and
secondly, the author) as a Galeot, a pander.
I loved learning from the Wikipedia that the poets just before Eliot were
all writing bucolics.
