Also, if literature has any impact on some of the 'leading thinkers' of a
society, and if those 'leading thinkers' do indeed lead the thinking in a
society, then literature might lead a whole society, whether or not every
single individual has read a word of it. It's influence pervades society as a
whole.

Newt Gingrich likes to write book reviews, so he set up a site to review the
books he reads--2 or 3 a week. He says about half his reading is light
fiction, and the rest is books about politics. I don't have the impression he
cares much for high falutin' "Literary" books.

learn to read so he can read wrestling magazines. I can't imagine him renting
