Perl is important, and there should be material about him in the archives (if
we could get at the archives). I'd like to suggest you read some of his more
serious books and papers, and not base your ideas about him solely on tapes
that were meant "for mass consumption" by a relatively uneducated popular
audience. I once heard an important federal judge give a talk about his work
to third grade school children. The ideas he floated with the children were
not on the same level as the ideas he would have considered in an article for
a law journal.
