Isn't the word "necessary" curious. Seemingly so definite yet so vague. As
I have grown long and scarce in tooth my necessary reading list seems to
have grown also. What I was only to glad to have ready rational for
avoiding as an undergraduate, I today am finding a hard time working in
amongst all the other posponements that seem to be coming do.
An archaeology professor of mine used to refer (tongue in cheek) to all
the "mother goddess" statuary of the late stone age as the stone age version
of "Penthouse". Some are always going to be more attracted by the pictures
Concerning the draft and its leavening effect. During the Vietnam war one
of more "brilliant" MacNamera ideas was to require all services to take
400,000 draftees who scored up to 20% below the normal lowest score for
inductees. This, an absolute disaster for the service and the man, was to
make up for the effect of the education deferments. Deferments that neither
the Johnson administration nor the academic community seemed to see the lack
of fairness in. During WWII leavening came from voluntary enlistments and
non service by men required serious explanation, this was not so of Vietnam
avoiders. The draft has always been more effectively applied to non-elites.
The more literate a person the more draft avoidance techniques are
available. The lirterate elites who make the rules insure this. T'is only
