While my twin was doing his search for "you see" he noticed this song
attributed to Soupy Sales too. Apparently Soupy's request to have
kids send in some of the green paper found in their parent's wallets
encouraged some other stories about him. Occasionally one can see a
portion of one of Soupy's shows where he was supposed to look behind
some screens. He was quite surprised and delighted. The crew had
hidden a naked lady there.
TSE once wrote an appreciation of the entertainer Marie Lloyd. I don't
remember if he wrote this but I'm sure if he knew of it he would have
appreciated her more.
A song by Marie Lloyd once had the line "she sits among the cabbages
and peas". Conservative forces, finding the double meaning offensive
brought pressure to bear and Marie changed the line to "she sits among
the cabbages and leeks".
