I think it is, in fact, one very good part of understanding the poems. If one
has never been in the tube, many images are unclear. Living on Casco
Bay, I feel I read "Marina" with a different visual understanding. Seeing the
streets of London or Boston changes how one pictures them. Why would
you think it not a valuable experience? In the case of Little Gidding, I would
think it very valuable to read some of its history also.

Subject: Visiting Places from Four Quartets
I am at university not fifty miles away from Little Gidding, and
am thinking of making a visit there sometime in May. While I realise that
going to the sites is not an important part of understanding the poetry, I
still think it might make good "background". Anyway, I would be
interested to hear whether other list-members have been to Little Gidding
(or, out of curiosity, to the other places of Four Quartets). If so, what
were their experiences?
